Some of the activities happen at particular times of the year. It is a big sailing region so there are often races and events throughout the year. The Airlie beach music festival is also a popular event in the month of November.
Whale sightings are a common occurrence in the area. June to August is optimum whale spotting time, due to the calm warm waters. The region offers protected waters, which provide the ideal environment for Humpback and Pilot whales to birth their young calves. Whales sightings are very common in winter months.
